San Jose, CA – Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Collision While Riding Electric Scooter

Ziff & Cohn

San Jose, CA (September 10, 2025) – A woman tragically died Monday morning, September 7, after being struck by a vehicle while riding an electric scooter in San Jose.

The collision occurred just after 8 a.m. at the intersection of Santa Clara and Cahill streets, located just south of the SAP Center arena.

Police said the woman, later identified as 52-year-old Monica Ibarra from San Francisco, was riding her electric scooter northbound in the crosswalk when she was hit by a 2021 black Ram pickup truck heading east.

Ibarra was rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Ram fled the scene after the crash.

Police later located the unoccupied vehicle, which they determined was stolen. The driver remains unidentified and is still at large.

This fatal accident continues under investigation by the San Jose Police Department

We offer our deepest condolences to the victim’s family during this incredibly difficult time.

Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in San Jose

Pedestrian accidents, especially those involving electric scooters, are becoming more common in urban areas like San Jose.

These accidents often lead to serious injuries or fatalities due to the lack of protection for pedestrians and scooter riders when struck by larger vehicles.

In this tragic case, the hit-and-run driver left Monica Ibarra to suffer the consequences of the crash alone, making it even more difficult for her family to seek immediate justice.

When a victim dies in a pedestrian or scooter accident, the surviving family members may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim to recover damages for their loss. Compensation can include funeral expenses, medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.

In cases of hit-and-run accidents, legal assistance is crucial to ensure that families can pursue justice against the responsible parties, even if the driver has fled the scene.

An experienced pedestrian accident attorney can help victims’ families navigate the complex legal process, gather necessary evidence, and seek compensation from insurance companies or public entities involved.
